Toru Ishikawa is a senior partner at ORION I.P.O., managing a biotechnology and pharmaceutical team. He has more than 30 years of experience in the intellectual property field, focusing on patent prosecution, opposition, patent infringement opinions, patentability opinions, freedom-to-operate analyses, and due diligence in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, and medical devices.

He provides impactful counseling to clients in all aspects of patent portfolio development in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology fields, including small molecule pharmaceuticals, antibodies and antibody-drug conjugates, antisense oligonucleotides, diagnostics, and enzyme replacements. He has prosecuted some highly valuable patent applications and applications for patent term extension covering approved products from several large biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies.

Toru started his legal career at a leading patent firm in Tokyo, handling numerous pharmaceutical and biotechnology applications of American and European companies. In addition, he trained at a patent firm in Washington, D.C., and then worked at the Southern California office of a major American patent firm. These experiences have enabled Toru to provide excellent services to non-Japanese clients seeking to obtain patents and protect their rights in the intellectual property field.

He founded the Sagamihara Office of ORION I.P.O. and has served as a committee member of the Biotechnology Section of the Japan Patent Attorneys’ Association.
